CPI 434 Vs. CPI 260: What are the Differences?
The California Psychological Inventory test may refer to one of two exams – the CPI 434 or the CPI 260. Though both tests are intended to evaluate leadership traits like creativity, problem-solving, temperament, and more, there are quite a few differences. Here is what sets them apart:
- A shortened version of the CPI 434 with only 260 questions.
- Focuses heavily on questions gauging interpersonal skills and self-management ability.
- Scores are shown through two reports – the coaching report for leaders and the client feedback report.
- This is a full-sized CPI assessment with 434 questions.
- Focuses on all aspects of leadership and professional personality. This includes, but is not limited to, managerial potential, goal focus, interpersonal skills, fragility under pressure, executive motivation, and more.
- Scores are shown through three reports – the overall profile, the narrative report, and the configural analysis.
CPI Key Details
The scoring for the CPI 434 and CPI 260 is broken into multiple segments. The 434 uses 18 scales of scoring, which are divided among 4 “scoring classes.” They are:
- Measures of poise and self-assurance
- Measures of social skills and interpersonal skills
- Measures of achievement potential
- Measures of intellectual and interest modes
This scoring is then used to determine the professional personality type of the test taker, which denotes the fields in which (and with which responsibilities) they would thrive.
The CPI 260 is scored similarly, but the questions and scoring focus more on interpersonal skills than any other factor.
The CPI 434 takes between 45 minutes to one hour, while the CPI 260 takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The questions are true or false styles, which makes them relatively quick to answer, especially if you know what the test is looking for!
